Thanksmas 2019
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program held its third annual “Thanksmas” event on December 13, 2019. This year the NFP program partnered with another Texas Home Visiting program supported by UTHSCT, Parents as Teachers. The two programs had nearly 60 families participate in the event, which brought families together to celebrate the holiday season. During the event, families were given the chance to take a photograph with Santa Claus, who gave each child a piece of fruit and a book, and make a keepsake ornament. Each family had the opportunity to talk with nearly two dozen community resources available to support them in their personal goals. Lunch was served as the John Tyler High School choir performed.
NFP Graduation: Winter 2020
The University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler on Tuesday, February 4th, recognized 21 first-time mothers who graduated from the Nurse-Family Partnership Program (NFP). As graduates, these moms and their toddlers were treated to graduation photos, story-time with Mr. Stephen, signing-up for a library card, enrolling in the local Parents as Teachers program, and the opportunity to meet others from the community who have been dedicated to their success and the services the UTHSCT program provides through the NFP program.
Christmas Party
Port Arthur Nurse-Family Partnership held a client Christmas party on December 20th. The clients decorated homemade cookies and there were games for all the kids. A photographer was on hand to take portaits of the families and babies. An NFP graduate spoke about the difference that NFP made in her life – she is currently in school for her BSN, which will be her 2nd degree. Santa Claus came with gifts and took pictures with all the kids-a good time was had by all!
Winter Wonderland
Baylor Teen Clinic hosted its Winter Wonderland event on Saturday, December 21, 2019. Clients, their families, the nurses, the Program Administrator attended. Harris County Judge Jeremy Brown who is dedicated to the success of mothers and babies and donated items for the event. All guests participated in a 12 days of Christmas sing along. Each participant took a day
from the song and sang it. There was a gift card raffle to local restaurants. Additionally, every individual was able to participate in decorating a stocking and stuffing it with goodies such as candy canes, chocolate candies, lip balm, hand sanitizer etc. The children that were present we able to enjoy a period of dancing with their mothers as well as with the nurses.
PIPE
At the start of the year, the Children’s Shelter teams in San Antonio PIPE Committee diligently started revamping their PIPE resources. The nurses are streamlining the PIPE process as they enhance their knowledge in PIPE delivery for the client. These nurses have shown teamwork, initiative, and creativity as they strive to deliver NFP content in a client-centered way. We are so proud of our teams here at The Children’s Shelter!
Local Impact Award
UT Health Science Center’s Nurse-Family Partnership received the 2020 Community Impact Award for improving health for low-income, first-time pregnant women. NFP has been serving Smith County since 2016. Click here to check out out the Full Article
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar
On February 19, 2020 Congresswoman Veronica Escobar visited the Nurse-Family Partnership team at University Medical Center of El Paso to learn more about our work with moms and babies. Congresswoman Escobar represents Texas’ 16th Congressional District in El Paso, and she made history when she was elected as the first woman to this seat and the first of two Latinas from Texas to serve in Congress. Clients and nurses shared their stories on what Nurse-Family Partnership means to them, and there was not a dry eye in the room! Congresswoman Escobar promised to advocate for Nurse-Family Partnership as a result of the heartwarming stories. Jacob Cintron, CEO of UMC El Paso Paso, pledged to support growth for the FNP team and the Local Network Partner will be adding a sixth nurse in 2020 as a result of his commitment.
